Teacher Unions Threaten To Defy President Over Schools Reopening

Pre-tertiary Education Unions have warned against any plans in the immediate by the Ghana Education Service, to reopen schools.

According to the unions, they would not subscribe to the re-opening of the schools should President Akufo-Addo decide not to extend the 31st May, 2020 deadline for the ban on prescribed public and social gatherings to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, and go ahead to order the re-opening of the schools.

The groups insist that conditions are not rife for the safe reopening of schools given that the new coronavirus infection spread remain “very exponential” and “still very much horizontal” in the country.

As at Monday, May 18, Ghana had recorded 5,735 confirmed cases, 29 deaths and 1,754 recoveries.

In a letter dated May 18, 2020, addressed to the Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), in response to requests for suggestions to plan the re-opening of schools, the unions – Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT-GH) and Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) - said given that our schools could serve as incubation centres of the pandemic, coupled with the unlimited social interactions and movements which take place there, they would not support the reopening of schools.

The unions also list a number of issues as additional reasons why they would not support any move to reopen the schools under current conditions, insisting, “We cannot expose our Teachers and students to the COVID-19 pandemic, with its attendant sorrows and gnashing of teeth.”

The unions are also concerned that;

Considering the age and exuberance of our students one cannot be sure that they will adhere strictly to the CONVID-19 protocol hence the fear that the disease may spread in the schools,

That the country's health system is still grappling with handling the situation,

That items for the observation of the prescribed protocols -i.e. clean running water for washing of hands frequently, alcohol-based hand sanitizers for sanitizing of hands by both Teachers and students, face/nose masks to be used by Teachers and students, are all not available in the schools.

That class sizes and dormitory population are still large, thus not making the observation of social distancing possible,
Majority of Teachers and Students will have to commute from their place of abode to the schools hence increasing the risk of infection of the CONVID 19.

A young man has gone online saying that All churches should be forever closed giving his reasons for this. Here is what he said below;

It’s been more than five Sundays now that the doors of churches worldwide have been closed and nothing strange has happened to the world. Thanks to corona virus, anyway, which has humbled everybody including the Eyes of God on Earth.

Well, many of our men of God are claiming that they are not afraid of the virus; they are just respecting the authorities of the land as directed by the Bible. If not, what is coronavirus to the anointing oil and holy sacrament?

Whichever, the church is locked and why can't we just keep it locked forever. Since corona virus has stopped us from going to church, God has not stop His mercies over the Earth, He still gives us rain at its time, sun and moon are still showing forth of God's goodness. God has not fail in fulfilling any of his promises, in fact, His mercies truly endure forever.

The only people that can have problem with this proposition are the Clergies, those who trade in God's name, but they should not be too worried, their greed is taking care of in my proposal. If we locked the churches forever, we can do our offerings online. Since we are still in good terms with God despite our inabilities to go to church, He will still give us wealth and using it to serve him will not be a bad thing.

Let's lock the church forever; amazing things happen online. The Bible assured us of that “where two or three are gathered in ‘His’ name, ‘He’ will be there". So our home can be the new church, it is also cheaper.

So, why can't we lock the church forever? The words of God must be in our mouths every minute as commanded by the Bible by stopping going to church we shall get use to the online churches which will be available 247 and then we can fellowship 247, unlike the Sunday Sunday Christian that many of us are.

Have a friend that knows English correct or edit your work. Having another person read your work helps generate more ideas to better your writing. You could have them edit everything or just a part that you are stuck on. Often having another set of eyes look at your writing helps find mistakes that you have overlooked.

You should try writing in different places or at different times of the day. Maybe you have writer’s block at night; try getting up 15 minutes earlier and writing in the morning. Bulldog Places GH¢50k Bet On Eno Barony To Beat Any Male Rapper

Artiste Manager Bulldog is putting his money on female rapper Eno Barony to defeat any male rapper who dares to face her in a battle.
According to him, none of the current crop of rappers has the fortitude to face the rap prowess of Eno.

For some days now, Sista Afia has ignited a lot of controversy after the release of her song ‘WMT’ on April 22.

While Sista Afia did not mention names, some people have concluded that she took jabs at Sister Derby, Wendy Shay, and Efia Odo in the song.

The song saw counter jabs and reactions from Freda Rhymz (released ‘KMT’), and Eno (released ‘Rap Goddess’).

Sista Afia released ‘You Got Nerves’ after that, prompting Eno to also drop ‘Argument Done’. Freda Rhymz, who didn’t want to be left out of the beef party, also released ‘Point of Correction’.

While the females are having a go at each other, Bulldog, who manages dancehall act Shatta Wale, has stressed that the female rappers are not Eno’s competition.

Speaking on Showbiz 927 on 3FM with MzGee, the artiste manager noted that the female rapper is even better than 97% of male rappers in Ghana currently.

“Eno, I have said countless times, she is better than 97% of the boys. Don’t even bring the women to start with…” he said.

Bulldog explained that with the exception of Obrafour, Okyeame Kwame, Lord Kenya, Tinny, and Kwad3e, Eno is better than the rest.

“Somebody will say oh me I be guy so I no go battle girl but you try bring your head, the girl will end your career,” he dared any male rapper.

To prove his confidence in the female rapper, Bulldog placed a GH¢50,000 bet on Eno to beat any male rapper who faces her in a battle.

“I can put money on it so they battle…I have my money on Eno.”

Born Lawrence Nana Asiamah-Hanson, Bulldog noted that Eno has been more consistent with her rap than male rappers today and his only worry is that the males won’t be clean when they face her in a beef.

“If Eno went head-to-head with somebody like M.anifest, M.anifest will be clean [unlike other rappers’.”
